This is an informal event that will allow those who are in town Friday night an opportunity to get together and mingle. There is no charge for this event, however if you show up after 9pm there is a dress code and cover charge. $5 for ladies, $10 for Gentlemen, no flip flops, sneakers, or baggy jeans.

Family Picnic and Reunion Banquet

Saturday we'll have two events the Family Picnic and the Reunion Banquet. This is a package deal, so the cost per person is for both events.

Bring your family out to the picnic and barbecue of the year at Great Neck Park. We tried to get a park closer to Salem, but park reservation in Va Beach is very competitive! This will be a family event with spouses and children invited.  Located off of Great Neck Road, Great Neck Park provides us with the perfect casual setting for a day of family, friends, food and fun. The picnic will be fully catered so you'll definitely be able to get your grub on! The menu will include Fresh Fried Chicken, Chopped Pork BBQ, All Beef Hot Dogs and Hamburgers, Buns and Rolls, Baked Beans, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad, Potato Chips, Fresh Baked Cookies, Chewy Chocolate Brownies and more! There's plenty of room to play basketball, soccer or baseball so don't forget your sports gear. And also a fully equipped kiddie play area and onsite restrooms. There are picnic shelters and tables but bring blankets to sit on and/or chairs in case you need them. Bring any Salem memorabilia to share, yearbooks, photos, cameras, memories, and whatever else you can think of. Please Note: Alcoholic beverages are prohibited due to the high cost of special use permits, the hiring of security guards, security deposits and other mandatory expenses related to allowing alcohol just don’t make sense for an event like this.

This event will require lots of help from you! We need volunteers to "man" the grill (in other words we need volunteers to grill the hamburgers and hot dogs). We also need folks to bring out their coolers to hold the ice, organize games/activities and to decorate. If you would like to pitch in please send an email to volunteer@salemhigh98.com.

Here's more info about Great Neck Park: Great Neck Park is 70-acres located along the banks of the Lynnhaven Bay. Facilities include five large group shelters, mini-shelters, family picnic tables and grills, three playgrounds, horseshoe pits, volleyball courts, vending machines, walking trails, restrooms and four baseball fields.

After the picnic is over you got about 4 hours to get ready for the big event, the Reunion Banquet! This will not be your typical, boring, sit down and eat class reunion; this will be more like a celebration ten years in the making! The Reunion Banquet will be held at Jillian's located at Waterside, Norfolk's downtown waterfront. We'll have our own private party room, the Mojo Lounge fully decorated in Salem's colors. The Mojo Lounge has a classy atmosphere with leather couches, floor-to-ceiling windows, full bar, cocktail tables, stage, dance floor and patio overlooking the Elizabeth River. So if the weather cooperates (and Norfolk has promised that it will!), you can step outside and enjoy the sites. We'll also have a DJ spinning 90's hits, if you have any request send them to info@salemhigh98.com. Now lets talk food! There will be plenty of it, the buffet consists of:

During the banquet we'll be giving out gag gifts for the "longest married", "most children", "furthest traveled" and all that fun stuff. There will be a photographer on site taking photos, (but still bring your own cameras) and plenty of time to mingle and catch up with old and new friends. And when it's all over, don't worry about leaving or rushing home, Jillian's stays open to 2am!

We chose Jillian's as our banquet location because when the banquet is over that doesn't mean the party has to end! Stick around and hang out for a few hours. Get your old clique back together and play a few rounds of pool in the 9-Ball Lounge, complete with 6 pool tables and tournament-quality Brunswick Gold Crown Billiard tables. Or you can continue sharing stories and laughs with old friends at the Video Cafe with 18 huge TVs and bar. Hit up the game room with over 150 electronic simulation games including your classic favorites, plus a 50 foot bar! And lets not forget about HyperBowl, virtual blowing that is guaranteed to blow your mind! And if your still in the mood to party, at 11pm the Mojo turns into a live dance club and lounge that will mesmerize you with pounding, pulsating live drum and conga beats all set to the hottest Top 40 remixes of today. Now if all of that is just too much for ya, you can chill and hang out on the Riverside Deck over looking the harbor and enjoy the view of Norfolk's skyline. Bottom line, whatever your mood, Jillian's is the place to be! They don't call it the `A Playground for Grown-Ups' for nothing.
